Kinky Twist Wash Day @ 7 Weeks Post: 30.09.12??
"The main reason why I have this blog is to ensure that I know when I do something to my hair..... This includes my wash days and because I didn't blog about it straight away I don't remember when I washed it!"
I know I washed my hair sometime in the past week and a half but I can’t remember for the life of me when it was!!! I remember the products I used but the day is just a blank to me. I have made a mental note to make sure I at least make a note on my phone when I have a wash day and the products used even if I am taking a hair/blogging time out.
• Heavily oiled my scalp with some grapeseed oil mix that I had left over from my last set of crochet braids installed back in April/May. I left this on for a while, can’t remember how long.
• Co-washed with diluted Hair One Cleanser & Conditioner (olive oil formula for dry hair). I used 1oz of this topped up with 7oz of water and this was still very thick so next time I will use less of the Hair One. I washed the hair whilst loose with it all hanging downwards.
• Conditioned with diluted Lustrasilk Mango & Shea Butter Cholesterol Conditioner
• Conditioned ends with diluted ORS Hair Repair Nourishing Conditioner Treatment
• Air dried
• Spritzed with diluted Taliah Waajid Hair Mist Bodifier the following morning.
My braid regimen has basically been to spritz when needed (daily or every other day/night) with diluted Taliah Waajid Hair Mist Bodifier. I have oiled my scalp a few times – okay okay, it has only been once with grapeseed oil and to be honest I have probably only spritzed the very ends of my hair once a week if that, since putting in the twists. I do spritz the roots and length of my hair pretty much daily. Yesterday I found a bottle with a few ounces of JBCO that I had wisely decanted into a smaller bottle earlier this year for my overnight bag. Result!!! I oiled my scalp and hairline with it yesterday evening and did a 5 minute scalp massage which was lush. My hair instantly felt super soft and yummy after applying the JBCO.
I noticed yesterday that my hair has grown quite a lot and my hairline has also thickened up nicely, despite the fact that I have pretty much left it alone for the past 3 weeks. I took out a twist yesterday evening and it was moist, had plenty of new growth, no breakage and best of all zero shedding so I think what I have been doing is fine for now.
I purchased a 32oz bottle of Giovanni 50/50 Balanced Conditioner from a seller on eBay on Sunday evening. I have wanted to buy a large bottle of this since I took out my last set of kinky twists as it's a great conditioner. It cost me £15 + £3 P&P - I managed to haggle the seller down a few quid on the postage cost. Next I will be trying to find the Smooth As Silk Conditioner in the 32oz size also.
For the 5 weeks remaining of this install, I will continue to do the following:
• Shampoo/Co-wash with diluted product only when required, so every 2 weeks or so.
• Spritz with diluted Taliah Waajid as required
• Oil my scalp with JBCO or regular castor oil as required.
I might redo about half of the braids either this weekend or next weekend to add more hair as I feel this install needs bulking up. If I don't redo/add more bulk I will definitely redo the hairline and nape then take them out at week 8. I am not sure whether I will take a 1-2 week break and reinstall or relax after two weeks wear my own hair for 4-6 weeks and then reinstall. I am also considering applying MN to my nape area and sides in an attempt to get them to thicken up as they are both so ‘scalpy’ this is not helped by the actual strands of hair being so fine in these areas. I don’t want to risk any increase in shedding whilst in a protective style so I will mull that one over for a while before making my decision.
Another thing I have noticed is that my scalp has been itching quite a bit more with this hair, either I didn't soak it in the vinegar solution for long enough or the type of hair used is just itchier. I will soak it in hotter water next time to see if that improves the itchies!
I am currently obsessed with my soak off gel nail kit (Sensationail - but I use Gelish, Red Carpet Manicure, IBD and EZ Flow soak off gel polishes as they work better for me) so my hair has taken a back seat these past few weeks as I can’t really do much with my hair at the moment and I am totally enjoying the break from it and pampering myself in other ways. Check out my Facebook page for pictures of my weekly manicures if you are interested in that kind of thing. If I get a fancy new camera for Christmas **hint hint gorgeous boyfriend** I may even start posting occasionally on a new nail blog as I already have one – but I’ve just never used it.

I LOVE soak of gel nails too but since I have a pretty decent nail polish collection I did not allow myself to jump on buying them. Instead I just cop a good Groupon every now and again! lol

ReplyDeleteThey are great!! I love that my nails stay looking groomed for a week or two with just an hour or so of effort.
Like you I have a good nail polish collection and have experimented today with gel sandwiches (using the gel base, regular polish and then covering with the gel top coat). Looked really. good on my swatching sticks. (",)
Thanks for commenting - I love all the changes that you've made over at L4L!!! Great work.
