Wash Day @ 5 Weeks Post: 09.09.12 ~ DC/Cowash & Colour Rinse

"Today’s wash started out as a dc/cowash but eneded up being a shampoo wash as I really NEEDED a colour rinse."

This is the picture shows the results from my last wash day, yep still bunning....for now!

These are the steps I followed during this wash day:

1.  Applied EVCO and finger detangled in 4 x sections.

2.  Applied ORS RC to my hair (used this up) and applied a little ORS Hair Mayonaise to the perimeter of my hair and the perimeter of the four sections and then two-strand twisted each section.  I then covered with a plastic bag and then my scarf and hopped into bed.

3.  8 hours later...., I rinsed out the conditioner in the shower whilst my hair was still in sections, using my shower filter head which now has a lovely crack in it (yep, I'm not impressed about that, especially as it wasn't broken by me....but enough about that!)!   I rinsed well and concentrated on getting the conditioner off my scalp. I then put a towel on my head to soak up excess moisture.

4.  Next I applied EVCO to my hairline, split my hair into two sections (parted down the middle) and then applied Adore colour rinse in Darkest Brown, using gloved hands. I concentrated the application to the front of my hairline as this a) has the most greys and b) has the most resistant greys on the planet!!! In total I used about half a bottle of the colour rinse. I then sat underneath my heated electric cap for 30mins.

5.  I hopped back into the shower and rinsed out the colour before shampooing each of the two sections with Elasta QP Crème Conditioning Shampoo. Whilst still in the shower I applied AO HSR conditioner to soaking wet hair left on for about 1-2 mins on each side and rinsed and finger detangled under the running water.

6.  I then put a towel on my head and left on for 5 mins to soak up excess water.  I then applied Giovanni Direct Leave In, Bee Mine Deja’s Hair Milk, EVCO, grapeseed oil and a little Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum and air dried.

My hair didn’t feel so great at this point then I realised I missed out a product; so I added the KeraCare Oil Moisturiser and my hair instantly felt better. This really seems like it has been the missing link for my hair!  I then airdried in the sunshine whilst I sat in the garden!

My head was itching like a mo-fo whilst I air dried!!!  I ALWAYS have this issue when I have had conditioner in my hair overnight.

My hair didn't take long at all to air dry in the sunshine to about 70-80% dry before I detangled with my HS jumbo rake putting my hair in 4 x large two-strand twists as I went along. Detangling took about 5mins and hair loss wasn’t bad at all, especially seeing as I can’t remember the last time I used a comb during wash day…. !

This is the amount of hair lost during the entire wash day and styling.

7.  Finally I applied some Organix Coconut Milk Anti Breakage Serum to my ends and hairline. Then, using damp hands and assisted by the very tips of my HS Jumbo Rake Comb, I scooped my hair back into a mid-bun, bent the ends over (kinda like the beginnings of a pin curl) and then secured the ends to my hair directly beneath the ponytail holder.  I put on a satin scarf, folded so it it resembled a long scarf, it was only flattening the smoothed parts and not the bun. I left this on for about an hour, whilst my hair dried completely.

The picutes at the bottom were both taken prior to finishing air drying using the scarf method.

Before bed, I applied JBCO (used this up) to my scalp, nape and hairline before covering with a scarf and heading to bed.

My scalp was itching on Monday because of the overnight conditioning. I will probably end up doing another wash tomorrow.  If the weather is bad this weekend (i.e. I can’t be bothered to go out!) I will do a protein treatment with ORS Hair Mayonaise from root to tip (not overnight this time), followed by a black tea rinse and then install some new kinky twists.  Right now I am feeling having a long term protective style as I fancy a break from my hair. I’ve brought two packs of hair in 1b as I have been doing colour rinses my hair is no longer henna hued, so I will be using the same colour as my original install 1B . All being well I will leave the twits in for 8 weeks again and follow the same install and regimen as my last install.

  1. I love how smooth your hair looks after air drying, and the colour looks so dark I love it.

    Thanks!! (",)

I am really loving the dark brown colour of my hair. It is a welcome change from the henna red that my hair has been for the past 2 years. It's surprising how much healthier my hair looks, just because of the colour and shine from the rinse.

  3. Love how full an thick your hair/bun is. My hair itches like crazy after an overnight dc also, that's why I rarely do them.

OMG! I thought I was the only person who suffers from the itchies after an overnight dc! It is so annoying - it doesn't matter if I shampoo afterwards or just rinse out the conditioner my scalp just itchies like mad - but I really like the effect of overnight dcs, but like you I don't do them often because of the itchy scalp it causes.
