D.I.Y. Braid Spray

"My new growth was feeling pretty dry all day yesterday, so when I got home I gave it a thorough spritzing with my homemade spritz."

I have been using this particular mix for just over a week and have only used it two or three times but I already love it.  I've made and used a similar mix last year but I prefer this version as it is much lighter as I omited the conditioner this time around.

The mix is made with water, glycerin, about a teaspoon of castor oil and 5 drops of peppermint essential oil.  I didn't measure I just poured the quantities by eye as indicated somewhat on the image below of a spray bottle which is the same as the one I use.

This is the exact same spray bottle that I use for most of my spritz's.  I filled the bottle with water up to the blue line, added glycerin up to the red line and then added castor oil to the black line where I added 5 drops of essential oil.

This spritz works brilliantly at introducing moisture to the entire length of my hair within the braids/twists and my new growth, it also smells delicious and minty.

I then followed this up with applying regular castor oil to my scalp, which always makes my new growth feel really yummy, especially after a good spritzing!

Four hours later my hair was still damp by bedtime so I blow-dried my roots and any wet spots along the length of the braid and then went to bed.

It is super important to make sure that your braids are not left wet for days after washing your hair in braids or after moisturising as this can encourage the growth of mold.

  1. Great Idea! Ive been wanting to do this for soo long, too lazy to buy the spray bottle lol..

And aw thanks hun, but re your questions, I'm in no way a make up expert and I haven't even been using brushes for long, plus I don't wear foundation usually.

But for blush I use the Real Techniques Blush Brush. For my eyes I use their eyeshadow brushes in their "starter set" (minus the crease brush which is better for concealer under the eye).

One brush I've really started to like more lately is my N7 Blending brush from Boots, but I don't know if you're in the UK?

For contouring I'd say any angled brush or a "slim" blush brush :) xx

    Hope it helped a bit!

Hehehehe (**,) You should get the spray bottle. I picked mine up at the BSS for only £.199 or something like that. Surprised they had them to be honest seeing as they are usually so rubbish for products etc. Also got some super cheap large flexi rods a few months back for £1.99 (they were priced incorrectly because they should have been around £7). I might get another packet for a giveaway prize.

Thanks for the info on the brushes. I will check Boots out this weekend. I'll get the Real Techniques starter kit from there and take a look at the N7 blending brush.

Thanks so much for this info.

By the way, have you tried MUA eye primer...? It's BRILLIANT!!!!

  3. Great spritz idea :). My new growth has been a bit dryer than usual because of the high temps in NYC the past few days. I may just have to try this, thanks for the post!

Thanks Jenna, I am really loving it at the moment. I made up a new batch this morning but instead of peppermint EO I used cinnamon EO. I don't like it as much fragrance wise so I think I will be sticking to peppermint from now on.

I wonder if I can buy coconut EO locally because I think that would smell amazing or I might try something citrus like orange or grapefruit.

    Thanks for commenting!
