Wash Days: Going Forward

I've decided that I will only chart my hair wash days going forward if I try something new in my regimen, or if I have something to report that is out of the ordinary.

My HAIR this week has been pretty much okay.  The overnight pre poo conditioning treatment seems to have done it the world of good, so much so, I am contemplating whether it will be possible to stretch my relaxer longer than planned.  My new growth has been much softer this week, although today my hair was a little dry but I think this is because I should have had my wash day yesterday so I was a day behind.  My does not let me forget when it needs washing - it loves the moisture.

As I type this I am sitting with my pre poo deep conditioning treatment on my hair.  Once again I used the combination of ORS Replenishing Conditioner (professional formula) mixed with shikakai powder.  I decided to add hemp oil to the mix this time along with the castor oil and coconut oil and some rosemaryy essential oil.  Once again I ended up not mixing enough conditioner because I am heavy handed and wanted to make sure that every strand was covered so I had to make up another small batch.  My hair felt great as I was applying the conditioner so I hope it feels just as good, if not better, tomorrow morning when I cowash it out.

I'm off to bed now to let this wonderful concoction work it's magic overnight - but not before I quickly mix up a batch of the brilliant KimmyTube leave in using Kinky Curly Knot Today which arrived in the post last week from British Curlies.

Ayurveda

I have recently purchased some more items for my drawer which contains all of my Ayurvedic products.

I started off with Amla oil and this was followed by Vatika coconut enriched oil. Both of these oils have mineral oil in them.  I really wanted to try an oil without mineral oil so continued to search for Vatika coconut oil and some Indian powders.  The Vatika was easy enough to find but the search for the powders took some time.  After going to many local Indian stores, I finally found the powders by chance in my local Tesco for £1.29 per box.  I brought some Henna and some Amla.

I then purchased some Shikakai and Mahabrinraj oils.

I have recently added to these with Aritha, Multani clay, Shikakai and Neem powders. The latest addition to my collection on powders in Methi (fenugreek) powder.  I am very excited to try this powder as it has wonderful conditioning properties and is heralded to supply plenty of slip.  I will be adding this to my next Henna gloss treatment.

I will review each of these powders seperately.  So far I have provided a review on Henna and have recently used Shikakai powder in an overnight contitioning treatment which was a success.

I just need to find some Brahmi and rose powders, oh and some hibiscus too!!!!

So far I really love using the Indian products, although some of them don't smell too great.....

Wash Day 10

My HAIR Today:
Is d-rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr-yyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!! I blow dried and flat ironed after my last wash day. It turned out nice but I think I used quite alot of heat to tame both my newgrowth and texlaxed hair. This resulted in hair that has been crying out for moisture from Saturday through to the following Tuesday which was has resulted in a premature wash day.  My Hair was just drinking up copious amounts of Bee Mine Deja's Hair Milk and Neutrogena Leave in cream over the past 4 days.

Pre Poo Routine:
I detangled this week as I always do, by sectioning my hair, this time into 8 sections and used Mane 'n Tail Detangler to assist in the process and soften my newgrowth and texlaxed hair.  After detangling each section, I put each one into two strand twists, until I was left with 8 of them on my head.  Ummmmm attractive!!!!

I decided to to pre poo this week, instead I tried something new deep conditioning overnight.  I mixed some ORS Replenishing Conditioner (the professional formula) together with a tablespoon of Bee Mine BeeUTiful moisturising conditioner.  I then added1 x tablespoon of castor oil and 1 x tablespoon of coconut oil, mixed together throughly and let it sit.  ORS is a fantastic moisturing conditioner and is also a light protein so works on two levels. The best kind of product to have.  I decided to add a little more strength to the mixture so I put a level tablespoon of shikakai powder into a small bowl and stired in some warm water to make a smoot paste, the consistency of melted chocolate.  I left this to sit for 20mins and then added to the deep condioner and oil mixture.

I then undid each two strand twist individually and applied the deep conditioning treatment to each section, paying particular attention to my ends.  I then redid the two strand twist.  Once completed, I put a shower cap on my head and covered securely, but not too tightly with two head scarves.  I have always been hesistant to condition overnight as I always seem to get the sniffles the next day if I go to be with wet hair.

Wash Routine:
I cowashed out the deep conditioning treatment the next morning.  I used by go to conditioner, Treseme Moisture Rich.  I love this conditioner so much, it never disappoints!  I decided to mix in a tiny little bit of Roux Porosity Control shampoo just to cut through the castor oil a little so that my hair was not an oil slick after cowashing out the deep conditioner.  I had a little incident once after being a little too generous with the castor oil in a DC treatment.  I then cowashed again this time adding a little Roux Porosity Control as it felt like I hadn't used this in a while, I like to use it at least once every two weeks.

Final Steps:
I added my KimmyTube leave in followed by some Bee Mine Luscious.  I didn't have time for applying all my leave in's as I needed to get to work.  I scraped my hair back in a mid pony tail and added a phony pony and was out the door.

Deep Condition = Overnight (application 30mins)
CoWash = 10mins
Products and detangling and styling = 10mins

Man oh MAAAAAAAANNNNN!!!  Did my hair feel amazing during and after this process.  I absolutely ♥ it (",)  The conditioner and oils just seemed to melt into my hair and left it incredibly moisturised.  And my new growth, well that felt amazing too!!!

I will be making sure I do this at least once every two weeks.  Why have I not tried dc'ing overnight before??!??!?!!?  I will certainly be doing this again next week!!!

Wash Day 9: It's an EGG

Well, it is almost Easter!!!!

My Hair has been feeling like it is in need of a protein treatment.  Whilst I am still undecided on when I am going to get around to doing my next relaxer, I am holding off doing the Aphogee Two Step Treatment as I really want to try out doing this exactly one week prior to relaxing/texlaxing as I have not managed this so far since I starte my healthy hair journey in July 2010.  So, I decided to opt for the humble, but fabulous egg in my conditioning treatment this week.

My Hair Today:
Is pretty straight.  I have been rocking a Caruso roller set this week and wearing my hair in a bun or wearing my quick weave, which is the fourth one I have made so far.  I may venture into lace fronts in the future as I think they will be more comfortable.

Pre-Poo Treatment:
I decided to condition with an egg today so I didn't pre poo persae.  I added 1 x egg to some ORS Hair Mayonaise.  I then added to my hair which had been detangled in sections using Mane 'n Tail detangler.  I left this in for 30mins and then rinsed out with luke warm water.

Wash Routine:
I followed this up with a quick co wash with Treseme Moisture Rich conditioner and then followed up with a moisturing deep conditioner Aubrey Organics White Camelia mixed with 2 x tsps of Hemp Seed Oil and 2 x tsps of coconut oil, covered with a shower cap and left on for 1hr without heat.   I then rinsed out and applied my leave in conditioners.

Final Steps:
I added my usual leave ins and some CHI Iron Guard heat protectant as I blowdried and flat ironed this week.

Pre-poo = 30mins (egg protein treatment)
Cowash = 10mins
Deep Condition = 1hr without heat
Products & Detangling = 10mins

I am really impressed with the egg.  The last time I tried this was about 10yrs ago and haven't bothered since.  I made the mistake of a) leaving it on too long, and b) washing out with hot water which cooked the egg into my hair!  Eeeeewwwwww.  I remember I was picking scrambled egg out of my hair for the next day and had to wash my hair again.  So I wasn't about to try that again in a hurry.  I'm so glad, 10yrs later I mustered the courage to do so.

Wash Day's 5, 6, 7 & 8

I've not really had a chance to update the blog on my recent Wash Day's.  I think I have missed 4 in total, one of which was a henna gloss.  I will try to remember and check back at my calendar to see what I have done to my hair....and when.

Wash Day 5: 26th February 2011
I cowashed my hair with Treseme Thermal Protect and flat ironed.  Nowadays I always use heat protectant, this is something that never factored into my regime before, unless by accident, i.e. a product I was using (usually Keracare) had heat protectant properties in it.  I can't remember the other products that I used but I do remember that the blow dry came out nicely.

Wash Day 6:  1st March 2011
I cowashed my hair today and deep conditioned using Bee Mine BEE-U-Ti-FUL deep conditioner which I left on under a shower cap for 1hr with heat.  My regrowth felt very moisturised when using this product.

Wash Day 7:  7th March 2011
I did a henna gloss today, using my usual mixture with HE HH as my base conditioner.   My gloss turned out well and my my hair feel really soft and strong at the same time.  I didn't get as much colour release this time around as I only left it on for 2hrs as I was tired and just wanted to get to bed after a long week / weekend.

This pic shows my regrowth on 07.03.11 before starting my henna gloss
 Wash Day 8: 13th March 2011
I cowashed today with one of my usual go to conditioners, HE HH.  I didn't wash my hair at home and I didn't have and dc with me, so I improvised and added a couple of teaspoons of my oil mix to the conditioner and let that sit on my hair for 15mins. The results were good. I added HE LTR and CHI silk infusion leave in's. My hair came out well and the new growth was lovely and soft. I don't think anything out of the ordinary happend on this wash day which is fine by me.

Picture of my hair after cowashing on 13.03.11 and putting into a low 'phony' pony

Overall, I am happy with the health, texture and length of My HAIR.  What can I say, so far so good (",)  The picture above was taken after my cowash on 13th March.  I added a phony pony to my hair for additional length.  I've been trying out alot of protective styles over the past few weeks and this is one of my 'go to' styles recently.
